To boost tourism, Railway will run steam engines from Neral to Matheran. Matheran toy train will soon be hauled with steam engine which railway thinks will attract tourists in larger numbers.

On April 14, a trial run was conducted by railways between Aman Lodge and Matheran but on a diesel powered locomotive with 2 coaches.

Divisional Regional Manager SK Jain said, “We want to attract as many tourists as possible. We shall be conducting a ceremonial run of steam engine with two coaches on April 14.”

Central Railway is also planning to convert a coach into restaurant. These changes has already been done on tourists train running Kalka - Shimla route. Indian Railways is reintroducing steam engines in a move to promote its heritage and, at the same time, boost tourism.
