While most of railway stations in India might come as similar to each other, there are few that stands out owing to their structure, history or technology. Let us have a look at some of such railway stations in India that are unique in some ways – 1. Ghum Railway station in West Bengal It is the 14th highest railway station in the world and the highest railway station in India situated at 7407 feet above sea level. It is also meeting point of several roads like Kurseong, Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Mongpu. 2. Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal of Maharashtra The building of this railway station is actually a UNESCO world heritage site. It is an outstanding example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture and it is uniqueness of this building that it stands out among others. 3. Royapuram Railway Station, Tamilnadu It is the oldest railway station currently operational in India. It is in operation since June 1856. 4. New Delhi Railway Station New Delhi Railway station holds the Guinness book of world record for having the world’s largest route relay interlocking system. It helps divert train movements during periods of high traffic. 5. Gorakhpur Railway Station, Uttar Pradesh It stands as the world’s longest Platform with platforms stretching 1.35kms long. It is also a very important junction of Northern Indian Railways. |
