For the first time, Khurda Road division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has transported soft drinks from Khurda Road station. Until now, the division traditionally had transported items like coach, cement, wheat, rice and iron ore in goods trains. This is a new traffic for the division.

On Saturday the first train from the division departed with soft drinks to Fatuha station in Patna of Bihar. After first successful delivery the soft drink company has now placed its second parcel order to Purnea of Bihar. As per railway sources, a local bottling plant requested the ECoR for the transportation after facing difficulties in dispatching soft drinks by road.

After the request ECoR has provided a 20 van parcel train which also fetched Railways an amount of more than Rs 12 lakhs as revenue.

In an official statement by ECoR, "Rail movement is generally preferred over road traffic as it can carry twenty times the volume and deliver the goods in less than half the time compared to road traffic."
