Title - First Ever Refrigerated Container (REEFER) Train Flagged Off From Sanathnagar Inland Container Depot

Shri Sushant Kumar Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, South Central Railway flagged off the first ever Refrigerated Container Train (REEFER) from Sanatnagar Container Depot today (7th November 2012) in the presence of Shri V.Kalyana Rama, Chief General Manager and R. Dhananjayulu, Group General Manager, Container Corporation Of India Ltd(CONCOR), Sanathnagar Depot.

Keeping in the view of economical and environmental benefits associated with REEFERS transported by rail, CONCOR, in association with South Central Railway has launched scheduled train service to carry REEFERS loaded with Pharma products etc meant for export. The first service of the Container Train carried 7 Refrigerated Containers containing High Value and Temperature Sensitive Pharmaceutical products to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Mumbai for export. In order to attract more Business CONCOR has created necessary infrastructure like plug-in points at Inland Container Depot (ICD), Sanathnagar and also High Capacity Diesel Generator sets are loaded in the train to ensure un-interrupted power supply on board for the REEFERS during their transit from Hyderabad to Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Sushant Kumar Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, South Central Railway said that Refrigerated Container Freight services from Hyderabad will help boost export of Pharmaceutical products from Hyderabad which will intend help the expansion of Pharma Industries in and around Hyderabad and generation of large employment opportunities. The Container Corporation is free to fix their own fare and it is more economical to move Refrigerated Goods by Rail compare to Road Transport, he added.

Speaking on the occasion Shri V.Kalyana Rama, Chief General Manager, Container Corporation Of India Ltd, said that Refrigerated Container Freight service is a new initiative which would boost the transport of High Value Goods which need Refrigeration. The number of Refrigerated Containers will be increased and also the present weekly service will be increased to bi-weekly or more depending upon the demand in the future. He expressed hope that Refrigerated Container Service will attract Fruits and Meet products etc., apart from Pharma Goods.
