Engineering department emerged as the overall champion to lift the second DRM Cup for the inter-department shuttle badminton tournament that concluded at the Railway Institute here on Sunday. The four-day tourney witnessed 14 teams comprising 70 shutters from various departments and railway institutes vying for honour in four segments - singles and doubles in both men and veteran categories.Railway Protection Force Ch. Veeranjenayulu bagged the men’s single’s title defeating K Bhanu Prasad of Engineering 21-17, 18-21, 21-18. The doubles honours went to K. Bhanu Prasad, who partnered Dhanunjaya Rao to beat G. Srinivasa Rao and P. Venkateswara Rao 21-17, 10-21, 21-14.In the veteran segment saw P. Srinivasa Rao bagging a grand doubles by winning both the singles and doubles. Mr. Rao took the better of P. Nagamalleswara Rao 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 and in the doubles he partnered Nagamalleswara O to beat K. Reddaiah and G. Sriniavsa Rao 21-19, 19-21, 21-18.Divisional Railway Manager Anurag, who attended the valedictory as chief guest, gave away the trophies, prizes and mementoes.The organisers felicitated Mr. Md. Basha, a mail guard, who is a senior-most badminton player. “Mr. Basha who is retiring this month-end had played many inter-railway tournaments,” said Arjuna Rao, Welfare Officer (Sports). District Sports Development Officer P. Ramakrishna, Senior Divisional Engineer (co-ordination) A.K. Sinha, Divisional Sports Officer and Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Ramesh Chandra, Railway Institute chairman and Divisional Engineer (East) G. Srinivasa Rao, SCR Mazdoor Union Divisional Secretary Swamy Charan, SC & ST Association Divisional Secretary Y. Kondala Rao and Employees Singh Divisional Secretary Venkata Subbaiah took part in the function. |
