Efforts are underway on a war footing to provide relief to passengers injured in the derailment of eight coaches of the Delhi-bound Firozpur-Mumbai Punjab Mail in Haryana's Rohtak district this morning, the Northern Railway said here.A team headed by Additional General Manager BP Gupta has rushed to the site to supervise relief and rescue operations, a Northern Railway statement said.At least 26 passengers were injured when eight coaches of the Delhi-bound train derailed between Sampla-Kharawar station of Rohtak-New Delhi section near Rohtak in Haryana on Delhi Division of Northern Railway in the wee hours today.All the injured have been shifted to PGI hospital Rohtak, the statement said. A team of doctors headed by Chief Medical Superintendent of Northern Railway is camping at the hospital and assisting the Hospital Authorities. Most of the injured have been discharged after the treatment, it said.The unaffected front portion along with the passengers of the train left at 6 am and arrived at New Delhi by 8 am and then continued its onward journey, the statement said, adding that Minister for Railways Mukul Roy is monitoring the situation.As per preliminary information the derailment was caused by rail fracture but Commissioner Railway Safety, Northern Circle will hold a statutory enquiry into the accident, it said.Northern Railway has set up Telephone help lines for New Delhi(011-23342954, 011-23341074), Delhi Junction (011- 23962389) and Nizamuddin (011-24359748, 011-24359735) stations, the statement said. |
