Title - Double-decker gets clearance from railway safety official - The Times of India

The final hurdle has been cleared for the Habibganj-Indore double-decker train. The train has received clearance for running from the commissioner railway safety (CRS) central circle, Mumbai, on Tuesday. The CRS has also written a letter to observe certain precautions to the west central railway (WCR).

Recently, CRS western circle Padam Singh Baghel had provided clearance to the double decker to run between Indore and Bairagarh section coming under Ratlam division. After this, the clearance by CRS, central circle, would now completely facilitate the double decker's run between Indore and Habibganj.

On April 13, the trial run for the train was conducted. Following this, CRS, western circle, had written a number of times to the railways regarding the various inadequacies and shortcomings. Recently, officials of the railway board demanded answers of the questions flagged by the CRS to the WCR officials. The WCR, then, forwarded the replies to the CRS.

After being satisfied with the answers provided by the WCR, the CRS Chetan Bakshi provided the clearance to the double decker train on Tuesday.

Limit speed to 75 kmph: CRS Chetan Bakshi in his letter has suggested the WCR that the train should run at an optimum speed of 75kmph. Also, since the lower decks of the double decker are quite low, the WCR has been told that the double decker should pass through the platforms at a speed of 10 kmph. Also, during the turnaround (crossing from main line to another line), the speed should not exceed 15 kmph. Besides, the train's speed should not exceed 50kmph while crossing any bridges. The CRS in his letter expressed concern as the double decker train would ply between Indore and Habibganj for the first time. Hence the speed limits should be especially taken care of.

After the train run, platform shed height was increased at Indore railway station. The same exercise was also undertaken at other railway stations including Ujjain, Dewas, Shujalpur etc so as to ensure smooth operation of the double decker train.
