International Level Crossing Awareness Day 7th June, 2012

Section 131 of Motor Vehicles Act. 1988

Every driver of a motor vehicle at the approach of any Unmanned Railway Level crossing shall stop the vehicle. The driver will himself walk down or shall send the conductor/cleaner or any other attendant up to the Railway Level Crossing to ensure that no train or trolley is approaching from either side and then only pilot the motor vehicle across such Railway Level Crossing.

Section 161 of Railways Act. 1989

If any person driving or leading a vehicle is negligent in crossing an Unmanned Railway Level Crossing, he/she shall be punishable with

imprisonment which may extend to one year.
