The detailed project report of Chandigarh Rail Metro Project was presented to Punjab governor and UT administrator Shivraj Patil by a team of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, on Thursday.The 37 km long project would cost around Rs. 10,900 crore. The DMRC team headed by its managing director Mangu Singh, also presented the copies of the detailed project report to the Punjab chief secretary and director town planning Haryana for the chief ministers of the respective states. On the occasion, Patil said, "Our aim is to strengthen the public transport system at the quickest possible rate. For this reason, we are constantly corresponding with the governments of Punjab and Haryana so that the project can be started at the earliest."In total, about 30 stations have been earmarked, each at an average distance of 1.210 km on the North-South corridor and at an average distance of 1.206 km on the East-West corridor.Keeping the traffic forecast in mind, the project is planned to cater to the needs of about 3 lakh riders initially which will gradually be strengthened so as to serve the residents of the tri-city as one of the major modes of public transport. |
