DMRC today achieved the second & final tunnel breakthrough of ITO Metro station in the presence of Mr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC & other Directors. With this breakthrough DMRC has completed the tunnelling work between Central Secretariat to ITO stretch of Delhi Metro’s Phase – III project. The breakthrough was achieved after completing 700 meters long tunneling on the Down line of the Mandi House– ITO stretch. The breakthrough on the 678 metres long Up Line was achieved on 18th September 2013. This maximum depth of the tunnel is 18 meters below the earth’s surface and it has gone the deepest below Tilak Bridge. The excavated earth was deposited at Mukundpur Depot. Earth Pressure Balancing Type TBM from Shanghai Metro Shield Corporation was used to concrete the tunnel. The TBM cutter head rotated at the rate of 0.7 to 1.5 RPM. The internal diameter of the tunnel is 5.7 mts. A total of 467 rings were inserted in the tunnel with each ring consisting of 6 segments. The casting of the segments was done at the Mundka Casting Yard. |
