Title - Dharna against railway apathy -

Protesting against the railway management’s callousness towards head ticket collector S Sreedevi’s critical health condition, the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union staged a dharna on Friday at the Ernakulam Junction Station. “The railways’ stand is inhuman. Its utter disregard for the lives of the staff is condemnable. Sreedevi’s life is at stake, yet the management is refusing to pay for her medical expenses or release any  funds for her treatment. If there is no action, we will intensify the agitation,” said SRMU Divisional president P Unnikrishnan.

S Sreedevi, who is the head ticket collector at the Ernakulam Junction Station fell ill on Tuesday and was admitted to a private hospital, where she was refused treatment as the railway was not willing to meet the expenses.

Later, she was forced to shuttle to various hospitals because of which her condition deteriorated. Sreedevi is being treated at Lourde hospital now.
