After successfully launching 160kmph train between Delhi and Agra Railway is gearing up to cover 245km distance from Delhi to Chandigarh in less than two hours. The aim is to increase travel speed upto 200kmph on Delhi – Chandigarh corridor. Once the train service will be launched, passengers will be able to travel between the two stations in 1 hour and 50 minutes with one stop at Ambala station. Railway is working in collaboration with French engineers to achieve 200kmph feet. At present Shatabdi Express covers this distance in 3 hours and 30 minutes clocking maximum permissible speed of 110kmph. In a recent meeting with French delegation Indian Railway officials discussed all the possibilities of running semi-high speed trains between Delhi and Chandigarh. The total cost of project is said to be Rs 10,000 crore which makes it Rs 46 crore per kilometre. |
