Title - Curfew Defied, Railway Track Blocked by ABMSU in Bongaigaon

ABMSU activists and their supporters defied curfew and blocked the railway track at Bijni station for about six hours  demanding arrest of Anjali Daimari and Kampa Borgoyari, promulgation of President’s Rule in Assam, dissolution of BTC and rescue of the missing camp inmates after the Malipara incident. Police arrested the picketers for violating Section144 and detained them at Bijni Police Station. Meanwhile, in the afternoon police picked up nine persons from Bangaljhora, Dongabhita, Inglangguri, Chaudhurypara and Gumargaon in connection with Saturday’s attack at Malipara.

On the other hand, reacting to the development, Chirang district unti of ABSU urged the district administration not to harass innocent villagers in the name searching for the culprits involved in the Malipara incident. The student body made it clear that there could be no objection to the nabbing of the real culprits, because common Bodo people did not want violence in their locality.

Chirang district ABSU president Jayanta Basumatary appealed to all sections of the people to maintain peace and harmony. A meeting of local organisations held today at the SDO’s office at Bijni discussed effective measures to tackle violence. At the meeting Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi asserted that there would be no compromise in bringing to book miscreants involved in violence in BTAD. He said that the general Bodo population did not want violence.
