The reconstruction of the Perandoor culvert near the PVS Hospital, Kaloor, is likely to be entrusted with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The meeting convened by Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas here on Saturday decided to request the state government to hand over the work to remodel the culvert to the DMRC. A letter will be sent to the Chief Minister and the Public Works Minister in this regard.The culvert has been cited as the major reason for the waterlogging in Kaloor and nearby areas even during slight downpour. The DMRC has already submitted an estimate of `7 crore for the reconstruction of the culvert. Once the Metro Rail work commences, it would become impossible to raise the culvert, the meeting observed. Regarding the other decisions taken at the meeting, Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said Kochi Refinery has allotted an amount of `1 crore for constructing a footpath along the Vendurthy bridge. Mayor Tony Chammany, Charles Dias MP, Hibi Eden MLA, deputy mayor B Bhadra, DMRC project director P Sriram and corporation secretary Ajit Patil attended the meeting. |
