Title - CR resumes auction of unclaimed two-wheelers
Posted by : greatindian on May 25, 2012 - 15:00:10 PM

Almost ten years after the practice was stopped due to security reasons following bomb blasts in the city, the Central Railway will soon be auctioning 67 unclaimed two-wheelers lying at parcel depots across railway stations of the Mumbai division.

The auction was stopped after the December 2002 blast inside a BEST bus in Ghatkopar which killed two people.

A notice regarding the auction has been published in a few city newspapers, requesting bike owners to come forward with relevant documents to claim their vehicles, failing which they will be auctioned next month.

As per the procedure, the auctioning is to be done at regular intervals, but was stopped after the spate of blasts in the city since 2002. The reason being that if auctioned, these bikes could possibly be used in anti-social activities.
