Title - CR authorities express impossibility to shift the Railway Station

Central railway Authorities have expressed that it was not possible immediately to shift the Historical Kolhapur railway station to another new place as the process of the shifting will need a long time and there was no proposal of shifting was put forth before the Railway authorities.

In a press conference, held here this afternoon, Y K Singh, Public Relation officer of the Central Railway Pune Division, made it clear that for the shifting purpose, railway authorities will need new land and also a lot of funds will be required, but there are no funds.

He was answering a question on Kolhapur Municipal corporation (KMC) Corporators, who had demanded in KMC's general body on July 17 to shift the railway station to a new place in the market yard area, outskirts of the city, on the grounds of traffic strain in the city.

Mr Singh said that railway authorities will put on CCTV cameras at the station in the next month. He also said that the tender for a new over bridge for smooth traffic of people will be within next two months and work of the bridge will be completed at the earliest.

Railway authorities will take a campaign to clean the surrounding area of the station and also repair all roads connecting the station area, Mr Singh added.
