The Rockfort and Pallavan Express Trains Retrieval Committee has decided to observe fast on September 1 here to condemn the railways’ decision to extend the Pallavan Express to Karaikudi “against the wishes of people of Tiruchi.”The proposed fast is the first phase of the continued struggle planned to be taken up by the committee in due course of time to urge the railways to operate the superfast express train from Tiruchi.A few days ago, the railways announced that the Pallavan Express would be extended to Karaikudi from September 1.The committee, which met here on Friday, decided to observe a day-long fast on September 1 near the Khadi Kraft with support from all political parties and other organisations.

Rail roko

It decided that shops and business establishments would down shutters in the second phase of the agitation, and hold a “rail roko” agitation in the third phase to demand the operation of the superfast express train from Tiruchi.It thanked the railway administration for having decided to operate the Rockfort Express from Tiruchi.Among those who attended the meeting were the committee coordinators M. Sekaran and Ve. Govindarajulu, DMK city secretary and former Mayor M. Anbazhagan, DMDK city secretary Vijayarajan, CPI city secretary K. Suresh, CPI-M city secretary Vetriselvan and Indian Union Muslim League’s district president V.M. Farooq.
