A train passenger, who lost his cash of Rs. 6 lakhs at Chengalpattu railway station, found the cash in the same train in an hour's time at Tambaram on May 4. According to Government Railway Police sources, Ganesan, a gold smith hailing from Villupuram, was on his way to Chennai in the Villupuram-Tambaram Passenger with Rs. 6 lakhs in cash, belonging to his neighbour. He was on his way to Sowcarpet.Ganesan got out of the train to drink water leaving behind the cash bag when it halted at Chengelpet. Before he could get back, the train left the station. Ganesan informed GRP staff at Chengalpattu, who in turn alerted their colleagues at Tambaram. When the train reached Tambaram, GRP officials checked the coaches and recovered the cash bag. The owner was called from Villupuram as Ganesan did not know the exact amount kept in the bag, police said, adding the cash was handed over to the owner. |
