Southern Railways has given a reason to cheer for passengers when it extended Chennai Egmore – Manamadurai Silambu Express to Sengottai this Pongal season. According to railways considering the demand they have taken this decision. This change has been made permanently and will stand effective from Saturday. Silambu Express is a biweekly train that was announced in rail budget of 2013 and 14. This is the second time that train’s schedule is altered. At the time of announcement it was planned to run from Chennai Egmore to Karaikudi; then it was extended to Manamadurai after huge public demand and now Sengottai. It is to be noted that in 2014 extension upto Sengottai was made but on temporary basis after Manamadurai - Aruppukottai - Virudhunagar gauge conversion work was completed. Later the extension was terminated that left the rail line underutilized up till now. |
