A 30-year-old suspected chain-snatcher, who was beaten up by passengers at Malavali railway station, died at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Sunday. Police have registered an offence of murder against unidentified persons.Lonavala police said the incident had taken place on Wednesday. The victim, Amin Ibrahim Tamboli (30), is a resident of Sinhagad Road."On Wednesday morning, Tamboli robbed a woman of her gold chain when she was boarding a train. She raised an alarm and some of the passengers chased Tamboli and caught him. They beat him up, causing injuries to his head," said inspector Santosh Patil.Initially, Tamboli was rushed to a private hospital but was moved to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in the early hours of Sunday as his condition deteriorated."After he was admitted to a private hospital he had undergone a brain surgery. He was on ventilator support when he was brought here. We immediately began his treatment but he succumbed to injuries," said Pralhad Bhagat, Deputy Superintendent, YCMH.Patil said the autopsy report confirmed that internal bleeding was the cause of death. "Earlier, we had registered an assault case against unidentified passengers. Now, we have charged them with Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code." Police are finding out if Tamboli had criminal cases against him. |
