Members of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a ‘rail roko’ by stopping Bijapur-Raichur Passenger train at Bijapur Railway Station here on Monday. They were protesting against the United Progressive Alliance government (UPA) for increasing diesel prices.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reduced the Indian economy to shambles. It is during the regime of the United Progressive Alliance that India has seen the worst economic situation where prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed.The protesters also condemned the move to restrict supply of LPG cylinders at subsidised rate to six per year. They said it would only increase the hardships being faced by the common man.A release said that allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail sector would be detrimental to the welfare of a large section of society.Earlier, a rally was taken out from Siddeshwar temple to Mahatma Gandhi circle.District in-charge Minister S.K. Bellubbi spoke. |
