Compared to last year, Central Railway has witnessed an increase in traffic in November and December. This is significant for the railways because fearing post demonetisation effects it was uncertain that railway might witness such increase in passengers. This increase in traffic is for season and card holders, however Western Railway witnessed 6% drop in card ticket holders this year in November and December. As the government allowed usage of old notes to book tickets after demonetisation railway officials says that they expected such results i.e. drop in card holders but jump in season ticket holders. "The card ticket growth in both these months have surprised us. The number of card ticket holders increased by 2.2% in November and almost 7.6% in December, a significant increase compared to the same period last year." |
