Title - Central line gets 40 new local trains

The city will get 40 new suburban trains for the CST-Kalyan route. The trains will include five 15-car rakes, and will be introduced from October, said Central Railway (CR) authorities on Friday.
    CR general manager Subodh Jain said there had been an announcement of 75 new suburban trains in the railway budget, of which the introduction of 40 will be completed till March 2013. Six pairs of trains will be introduced in the Thane-Ambernath-Badlaput-Karjat route, five pairs in the CST-Kalyan (all 15-car rakes) route, two pairs in the Wadala-Panvel route, three pairs in the Thane-Panvel-Vashi route and four pairs in the Thane-Kasara route.
    “On the Trans Harbour line, we will convert all trains to 12-car rakes; the process will begin within a month,” Jain said. This is being done because of huge passenger volume in this section. It is learnt that in all, 78 trains will be converted to 12-car rakes.
    Jain said that in the near future, all trains leaving Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) will stop at Thane. “This will solve the problem of autos and taxis that refuse to ply to LTT.”
    He announced an upgrade of the Deccan Queen and the CST-Nagpur Express, the introduction in two months of new AC dormitories at CST and LTT for families, and green toilets in the Mahanagri and Pushpak Express trains on a trial basis.
    Assured reservations
    A significant decision taken by CR was the introduction of an assured reservation service (ARS) for passengers on 14 long-distance trains. “(In this) till the time the chart is prepared, we will try to clear the waiting list,” Jain said.
    The ARS for tatkal passengerswillbestartedin 14trains on an experimental basis. The trains are: Mumbai-Aurangabad Janshatabdi, Mumbai-Madgaon Janshatabdi, Mumbai-Pune Deccan Express, Pune-Nagpur Garibrath Express, Pune-Nagpur Express, Mumbai-Nagpur Sewagam Express, Dadar-Sainagar Shirdi Express, Mumbai-Pune Pragati Express, Mumbai-Kolhapur Koyna Express, Mumbai-Kolhapur Sahyadri Express, LTT-Manmad Godavari Express, LTT-Manmad Rajyarani Express, LTT-Habibganj Express and Pune-Solapur Hutatma Express.
TRAINS SPED UP
    In its new time table, to be effective from July 1, CR has increased the speed of 11 trains by 5-30 minutes. Passengers on the LTT-Coimbatore Express will now save 30 minutes in travel time while those on CST-Asansol Express will save up to 10 minutes. Other trains include the Mumbai-Amravati Super-fast and the Vidarbha Express.
INCREASE IN FREQUENCY
    CR has increased the frequency of six trains, including Jabalpur-Mumbai Garib Rath from bi-weekly to triweekly, Kanyakumari-Hazrat Nizamuddin Tirukkural Express from weekly to bi-weekly, and Hyderabad-Shri Chhatrapati SahuMaharajExpress from bi-weekly to daily.
