GUWAHATI – The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has urged the NF Railway and the Union Railway Ministry to introduce a long-distance train in music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s memory from Assam besides naming the Guwahati Railway Station after him.It also called for introducing a ‘Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Express’ that would tour across the country spreading the legacy of the maestro. The AASU said that Dr Hazarika embodied the very spirit of Assam and the North-East, and his tomb should be developed and preserved in such as way so as to evoke that ethos.“We want that the proposed tomb reflect all that Dr Hazarika embodied. It should bear the imprint of the invaluable bequeath left behind by Dr Hazarika including his all-pervasive humanism,” Dr Samujjal Hazarika, AASU adviser said. The AASU said that everybody had a responsibility in carrying forward Dr Hazarika’s legacy and as part of that endeavour, his life and works should be included in school and college curricula. “We also feel that since Dr Hazarika successfully effected and represented a synthesis of the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the North-East, it is imperative to have study and research on his creations and philosophy. The four universities of the State are well-placed for the job,” Dr Bhattacharya said. The AASU demanded that there be four Dr Bhupen Hazarika chairs in the four varsities as a mark of honour to the legend. The AASU further appealed to the Government to ensure preservation of Dr Hazarika’s creations in time capsule. The AASU also urged all concerned to be vigilant so that there was no distortion of Dr Hazarika’s songs. |
