Prime Minister Nanrendra Modi’s dream project of bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad is inching slowly towards reality. A bullet train will require a separate terminus and MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) has agreed to provide land at Bandra – Kurla Complex (BKC) for the first terminus. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis ordered MMRDA to provide 40,000 square metre land to build the terminus. MMRDA commissioner said that “State government will take a final call on our comments and will convey the same to Central Government.” However MMRDA is also concerned about their revenue loss after allotment of land for bullet train terminus, therefore an underground terminus can be built so that the rest land will be available for IFSC construction. The total cost of bullet train project is estimated to be Rs 99,000 core from which 25% of the total cost will be shared by Gujarat and Maharashtra state governments each. The remaining 50% will be shared by Central government. A total of 12 stations are proposed between Maharashtra and Gujarat on the 508km route. Four stations will be in Maharashtra and eight will be in Gujarat. |
