A computerised passenger reservation system centre set up by Railways for reservation of tickets at non-railhead locations will function on the Civil Station premises at Kudapanakunnu here from Monday.People who reside near the Civil Station, Peroorkada, Vazhayila, Karakulam, Mukkola, and Mananthala will benefit the most from the 14th such centre being set up by the Thiruvananthapuram division at a non-railhead location.The facility at the Civil Station was in addition to the non-railhead PRS centre at the government Secretariat and the ones at Thampanoor and Pattom.The facility was being set up under an initiative of the Railway Board on a proposal in the Railway Budget 2009. The MPs were to identify one location each in their respective constituencies for the setting up of the facility.Railways would provide the technical support and the MPs were asked to arrange the location and staff to operate the reservation counters as per the rules and regulations of Railways.Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor will inaugurate the facility at 3 p.m. General Manager, Southern Railway, Rakesh Misra; Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal; and Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, Sarala Balagopal will attend.

Non-rail-head reservation centres of Railways were functioning at Kakkand, Pala, Nedumkandam, Kodungalloor, Attingal, Kanjirappally, Muvattupuzha, Cherthala, Alappuzha, and Pathanapuram.

In addition, the centres had been set up at the Kumily and Munnar Post Offices.
