The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has requested the railways to provide basic amenities at the Salem Town Railway Junction. In a letter to the Salem Railway Divisional Manager Sujatha Jayaraj, party district general secretary R.P. Gopinath said that thousands of passengers use the junction every day.But the junction lacks toilet facility and drinking water facility and passengers are put to hardship. The letter said that the junction was turning into a ground for anti-social elements and the party had highlighted this issue earlier.Presence of TASMAC outlet opposite to the junction is posing threat to the passengers, especially women. The DRM had inspected the junction last month. But no security personnel or basic amenities were provided.Hence the railways should open the already-constructed toilets for the convenience of the passengers, he said. |
