Title - A’bad-Mumbai double-decker to install LCDs, showcase films

While Ahmedabad-Mumbai double-decker is awaiting its inauguration for past two months, Ahmedabad Railway Division has turned the unwarranted delay into an opportunity to upgrade the services on board. The railway officials have not only chalked out a plan to provide entertainment on wheelsbutarealsointhefinalstageto decide on what will be offered to the passengers.
    “Tomaketravellers’six-hourjourney comfortable and entertaining, we are planning to install LCD in the coaches.Notjustforfun,theLCDwill be used to promote railways and earn revenuesthroughadvertisement.We have also proposed to showcase the culture of Gujarat and Maharashtra tomaketouristsawareoftherichheritageofthestates.Wearetryingtoprovide best services to make the jaunt a pleasant experience for the passengers,” said Divisional Railway Manager Rakesh Behal.
    The railways have approached several entertainment agencies and sought their suggestions.
    Theofficialsareintheprocessoffinalising snacks and cuisines to tickle the travellers’ taste buds. “Passengers will have to pay for the breakfast,” said the official.
DELAY IN THE DOUBLE DELIGHT
It is more than two months that the rakes are ready for the double-decker. “The security clearance had come in June and even trials are over months back. However, the inauguration is getting delayed due to the minister’s non-availability. Earlier it was to start from June but minister’s busy schedule pushed it to July then August and now it is September,” said a source in Ahmedabad Railway division.
    “The inauguration will take place inMumbai.Twodaysbeforetheinauguration, the rakes will be taken to Mumbai,” said the source.
    According to the schedule, the train will leave Ahmedabad daily at 2.20 pm and will reach Mumbai Central at 9.40 pm, while it will return from Mumbai Central at 6 am and reach Ahmedabad at 1pm. The train will run six days a week.
    Sources also said that every coach has fire extinguishers on its gate. Equippedwithfullyautomaticdoors, each coach has eight emergency windows, mini pantry including fridge and microwave.
