Southern Railway officials conducted an awareness campaign on safe crossing of unmanned level crossing as part of International Level Crossing Day observed on Thursday.Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Madurai, Govindapparaj, distributed pamphlets to school children, truck and bus drivers and other road users to explain how to cross the unmanned level crossing.He told them that the trains run at a high speed of around 110 km and people often fail to calculate this speed. “They think they could cross the track before the train could pass, but often meet with accident,” he said. He interacted with villagers at seven unmanned level crossings between Virudhunagar and Sivakasi. He told the drivers of trucks and buses, to stop their vehicles and proceed only after ensuring that no train was approaching them from both the sides. |
