New Delhi: An Army jawan has climbed a 200-feet-high tower near the Ajmeri Gate railway station in New Delhi to protest the threat of punishment from his senior officer.The jawan, named Muthu, is alleging that the officer in his Engineers Regiment is harassing him. According to Muthu, his leave was cut short when he wanted to go to his village after his father's death. Similarly, he alleges, his leaves were curtailed on various other occasions.The jawan also alleges that he was one slapped after coming back from leave and his salary was withheld for the next nine months.Muthu says he will climb down from the tower only after an assurance from the Defence Minister. Police, fire tenders and rescue teams are on the spot trying to persuade him. |
