Guwahati, July 25 (ANI): The Army on Wednesday staged a flag march in Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD), including violence hit Assam's Kokrajahr and Chirang Districts. Army PRO in Tezpur said 13 columns had been deployed to maintain law and order situation in the state. Meanwhile, three more bodies recovered in Chirang district. With this, death toll has gone up to 35. Curfew was relaxed in Kokrajhar district till 12 p.m. today. But indefinite curfew continues in some parts of Dhubri and Chirang. On Tuesday, Railway Minister Mukul Roy urged Home Minister, P. Chidambaram and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for providing security assistance in ensuring the smooth and safe movement of trains in Assam. In a statement, Roy said that the Railways are making efforts to position affected trains at bigger stations so that the stranded passengers could be provided with food, water and security. He stated that the Railways is trying its best to regulate the train movement in view of the disturbances but requested adequate security specially in the 54 kilometer badly affected area between Srirampur ad Salakati Railway stations so that the trains held up in the region for more than 24 hours could be moved towards their respective destinations. Roy pointed out that Railways has geared up its machinery to provide best possible care to the stranded passengers. Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh had earlier said that he has been in continuous touch with the Chief Secretary and the Assam Director General of Police. "I have been in touch with the Chief Secretary and the DGP continuously, right from the time this problem began," he said. "I have spoken myself to the leaders of the Bodos and Muslims both. We are in constant touch with them, I have told them that anything more, which they require, will be given," he added. According to police officials, the latest wave of violence was sparked last week when unidentified men killed four youth in the state's Bodo tribe-dominated Kokrajhar District near the borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan. In retaliation, armed Bodos attacked Muslims, suspecting them to be behind the killings. (ANI) |
