Alert Loco driver averted major accident of 12052 Madgaon – Dadar Janshatbdi when he applied brakes instantly after spotting an object from far. A 15-feet long piece of rail was lying horizontally across the tracks near Diwa, Mumbai. The region comes under the Central railway. Alert loco pilot Harendra Kumar and his assistant pilot Harish Chincole spotted the lying iron log and brought the train to halt a kilometre away from the piece between 10:30PM and 11:00PM on Tuesday. The 400 kilogram of piece normally placed alongside of railway tracks are used to repair potential rail fractures. The incident came out just two days before Republic day and days after Jagdalpur – Bhubaneswar Express accident. According to rail officials, this could be an act of terrorism as agencies will look into this matter from every possible angle. What has set the incident apart is not just the timing, but also the sheer length of the piece. The seven-meter piece of rail would have required the involvement of around 6-7 people. |
