GUNTUR: A train accident was averted after an alert keyman noticed a crack on the track on the Vijayawada-Gudur section near Chiluvur station in Guntur district and alerted the authorities in time on Wednesday. Officials from the engineering wing immediately rushed to the spot and carried out the necessary repairs.

Keyman P David was inspecting the track between Chiluvur and Duggirala stations in the morning and found a crack on the rail. He immediately called the engineering officials with the help of a gateman. At that time, the Vijayawada-Ongole passenger was approaching the track. However, the officials stopped the train at Tadepalli and allowed it proceed only after repairing the track.

The officials lauded the keyman for providing valuable information as it could have resulted in another major accident had the passenger train run on the cracked track.
