NAGPUR: The long-standing demand of pilgrims wanting a direct train to Ajmer will be fulfilled on September 26 when the Ajni-Jaipur train via Ajmer will have its maiden run, informed a press release by MP Vilas Muttemwar. The weekly train will have Ajni as its home station, according to Muttemwar, making it the third train to be shifted there to decongest Nagpur station.
The Nagpur-Ajmer train was announced by the then railway minister PK Bansal while presenting the railway budget earlier this year. Devotees of Sufi saint Khwaja Garib Navaz Moinuddin Chisti, whose dargah is located in Ajmer, have been demanding a train for some years now.
The train to Jaipur will leave on September 26 from Nagpur at 10am and is expected to be flagged off by Muttemwar. It will reach Ajmer the next day at 11am. "From there it will go further to Jaipur and return to Ajmer the same day to leave at 7pm for Nagpur and reach Ajni at 8pm," said Muttemwar. On May 16, the railways had run a special Nagpur-Ajmer train which did not receive much response.
Central Railway officials said that they had not received an official notification of the first run of the train and as on Saturday evening they weren't able to give any details.
Muttemwar's release also said that minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury would be in the city on September 23. He is expected to discuss various issues related to the city including making Nagpur and Ajni Railway stations world class facilities, development of Itwari railway station and others.
Chowdhury is also expected to visit Ajni station and the Motibagh employee's residential colony. He will also be discussing problems of the Motibagh loco shed employees and meeting people's representatives at the Central Railway office.
He will also address members of the Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce. The release also informed that city's guardian minister Shivajirao Moghe will be present for the event.
