Title - Airport Metro to cost Rs 12 crore for repair

The Airport Metro, a joint venture between Delhi Metro and Reliance Infra, which ferries over 15,000 people daily over a 23-km line, covers the distance between the New Delhi Railway Station and the Indira Gandhi International Airport in 18 minutes was suspended after some faults were detected in the civil structure of the line on July 8. The Delhi Metro has informed that the estimated cost of repair would be Rs 12 crore approximately and their stand is that there would be no revenue loss to them. The government-run Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has filed a report that exposes how the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Reliance Infra overlooked serious technical problems in the India’s first airport metro service. The report says how the airport metro ran on broken clips for eight months. It says 11,000 clips found broken on the IGI airport-Shivaji Stadium track. The serious safety flaw was discovered during a surprise inspection by railway ministry officials. The clips were supplied by a German company Vossloh.
