Trains stopped at Srikakulam, Vijayawada

With the Dasara and Navratri festivities beginning in the state, the railway stations are witnessing a mad rush of people heading towards the Seemandhra districts.
With the festival season beginning this Saturday and extending up to Bakrid next Wed-nesday, there were long queues of passengers waiting for trains and private buses at stations and terminuses in the twin cities as well as in the districts.

SCR meanwhile, cancelled 30 trains on Monday as after the Vijayawada division, the Waltair division of East Coast Railway felt the Samaikyandhra heat due to shortage of power supply to run the trains. EcoR authorities cancelled at least 10 passenger trains and were trying to make alternate ar-rangements with diesel engines.

SCR Vijayawada divisional manager P. Pradeep Kumar said that passengers could contact the helpline number 0866-2576796 and 10 other lines. Meanwhile, the cancellations hit transport connectivity in Seemandhra districts and also between major cities like Chennai and Visakhapatnam as in the absence of RTC buses, the trains were the only means of public transport for commuters. Railway officials cancelled over 20 passenger trains in the Vijayawada division on Monday. Express trains like the Janashatabdi and Pinakini were also cancelled.

Nearly 1.3 lakh com

muters pass through Vijayawada station every day, but currently the number has halved.
Express and passenger trains were stopped due to the power crisis at different railway stations in Srikakulam district as well. The Prasanthi Express towards Ben-galuru was stopped at Ponduru and the Visakha Express on iots way towards Bhubaneswar was halted at Dusi for three hours till authorities could arrange for diesel engines.
