Title - Adhir seeks better amenities at railway stations

KOLKATA: Minister of state for railways AdhirChoudhury inspected the Bongaon and Habra stations on Tuesday and spoke to the commuters. He directed the senior Eastern Railway officers accompanying him to pay more attention to amenities.

"He inspected the station premises thoroughly and gave necessary directions for overall improvement. Among those accompanying him were G C Agarwal, general manager, ER, Suchitto Kr Das, divisional railway manager, Sealdah, A K Jha, principal chief engineer, ER and A K Mittal, CAO(Con), ER. The minister interacted freely with commuters and asked if they faced any problems while travelling by train to and from Sealdah. Based on what the commuters said, the minister gave instructions to the officers. He expressed a lot of concern for the commuters for who the railway link is a lifeline," an ER official said.

Many of the commuters complained to Choudhury about the encroachments on platforms and elsewhere on the station premises that cause difficulties for them.

The minister immediately directed the officers to take necessary steps and get the encroachments removed. He also accepted written representations from commuters and spoke to the officers on grievance redressal. After his visit, Choudhury seemed quite happy with the overall improvements made by the Sealdah Division.
