Title - Adhaar made compulsory by Railways for senior citizen ticket booking from April 1, 2017

To avail concession on train tickets for senior citizens, railway has made Aadhar card necessary.

The 12 digit Aadhar number will directly linked to train tickets of senior citizens from next year April. This will applicable to counter tickets and as well as online tickets. This implementation will be done in a phased manner. From January 1 to March 31 railway will ask Aadhar verification on voluntary basis on tickets of senior citizens. This will be made compulsory from April 1.

According to railway, the benefit of such a scheme is that it will cut touts and unauthorized agents from booking tickets on fake name or selling tickets on higher price.
