Title - Additonal power to DRMs given by Railway Board to promote Heritage hill Railways

More powers will be given to Directors of the five iconic Heritage Hill Railways of Indian Railways and to Divisional Railway Managers by Railway Ministry so that potential of tourism can be enhanced on Heritage trains.

In a directive issued by Railway Board; it mentions that opportunities to showcase culture, cuisine, art etc. will be encouraged through heritage railways. Divisional Railway Managers of different heritage railway zones can now treat it as separate activity which will help to increase profit. The division concerned can engage any suitable agency for designing, packaging and marketing of tourist packages.

Currently there are five hill heritage Railways -

• Kangra Valley Railway (KVR)
• Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR)
• Kalka Shimla Railway (KSR)
• Matheran Light Railway (MLR)
• Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR)
