Title - Action initiated against persons littering railway stations

PUNE: The Pune division of Central Railway has appealed to commuters and visitors at railway stations not to litter station premises, platforms and trains. As many as 911 persons faced action in last five months in Pune division for littering station premises.The action was initiated during a drive conducted at all prominent stations in the division starting from April 1 up to August 31. A fine amounting to Rs 95,650 was collected from booked cases.An official in the Pune division said that people were caught while throwing garbage on the platforms, plastic waste on tracks as well as in compartments. People were also booked for spitting in rail premises and throwing wrappers. People are suppose to make use of dustbins to dispose of garbage. A fine up to Rs 500 was imposed in every case, while people were also given strict warnings to avoid such act.The administration has said that action against persons littering platforms will continue.An official said that the administration has put posters on platforms to create awareness among commuters to keep the stations clean and that people can face action if caught making the premises unclean.

The administration has asked food stall vendors at stations to provide adequate dustbins to collect garbage and plastic waste.
