Title - Western railway to add more coaches on express trains

MUMBAI: For the convenience of passengers, the Western Railway has decided to augment IInd class sleeper coaches in 19025/19026 Surat - Mahua Express from January 30 and in 19053/19054 Surat-Muzaffarpur Express from February 1, 2013.

After the augmentation, the Surat-Mahua Express will have 18 coaches and the Surat-Muzaffarpur Express will have 19 coaches.

Similarly, the railway has expanded the list of prescribed proofs of identity for booking tickets and travelling aboard as photo identity cards with serial number issued by public sector units of state and central governments, district administrations, municipal bodies and panchayats have been included in it.

Also, the railways has decided to relax the condition of production of original proof of identity, particularly for the passengers belonging to the lower economic classes.

According to the relaxation given, attested photocopy of the ration card along with photograph and nationalized bank passbook with photographs shall also be accepted as a prescribed proof of identity only in case of reserved tickets booked through computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, for undertaking journey in sleeper and Second Reserved Sitting classes.

These photocopies should be attested by a Gazetted Officer or the chief reservation supervisor or station manager/Station Master.

The above provision is not applicable for all classes of e-tickets and Tatkal tickets and tickets issued through PRS counter for travelling in Air-conditioned classes and First Class.

It is mandatory for any passenger booked on a PNR travelling in a reservation class to produce any one of the prescribed proofs of identity during journey, failing they shall be which treated as travelling without ticket and charged accordingly.
