Title - Western Railway comes down on heavily on unauthorized travel

MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) has managed to earn Rs 10.31 crore from passengers who are either traveling ticketless or had flouted travel related rules in its jurisdiction in May 2013.

WR's chief public relations officer Sharat Chandrayan said, " We have taken action in 2,29,183 cases of ticketless/irregular travel including un booked luggage cases in the month of May 2012. These cases led to the a recovery of 10.31 crore."

Similarly, 1,544 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected in the same month. He said, "An amount of over Rs. 14 lakhs was realized from these offenders. We maintained strict to vigil to prevent such type of unauthorized travel."

During May, 2013, 175 checks were conducted against touts and other anti-social elements. As a result, 244 persons were apprehended and got prosecuted under various sections of Railways Act.
