City's iconic monuments should not be endangered due to ongoing metro rail construction works, speakers at a talk organised by Telangana Resource Centre, concluded here on Saturday. They were of the view that the heritage monuments could be saved if a few stretches of the metro rail construction is taken up through underground means.Without considering alternative options such as strengthening MMTS and APSRTC services, authorities were rushing through the construction of the metro rail and this would result in the serious wastage of resources, MMTS Travellers Association Convener M. Vijaya Raghavan opined.Speaking on the occasion, C. Ramachandraiah of Citizen for Better Transportation said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared in 2003 specified that the construction of Corridor – III was technically not feasible.“In spite of the technical difficulties as reported in 2003 DPR, metro rail construction is being taken up. Also, authorities are not making copies of the DPR and other agreements, signed by State government and L&T Corporation, available to the public,” he alleged. |
