Train traffic was disrupted on Sunday morning as a huge tree got uprooted and fell on the railway track at Murukkumpuzha here in the wee hours. Around 10 trains heading towards T’Puram were delayed owing to this. The railway power cable broke as the tree, on the premises of a temple nearby the Murukkumpuzha railway station, fell on the track. The incident occurred around 3.30 am. It was by 4.30 am that the track maintenance unit of Railways along with the Fire and Rescue Service personnel started removing the fallen tree from the track. Trains, including the Mangalapuram-Thiruvananthapuram Express, Maveli Express, Amrita Express, Malabar Express, Vanchinad Express and Intercity Express got delayed owing to the incident. “The fallen tree was removed in 45 minutes and the traffic along the affected track could be fully restored by 9.15 am,” a Railway official said. Railway officials said that the work on power cables was given attention to restore the train traffic. |
