Title - Railways to increase number of RAC seats in AC-II, AC-III coaches

Ambala: In an apparent bid to increase the revenue, Indian Railways have decided to increase the number of RAC (Reservation against Cancellation) berths from four to six in AC-II and AC-III coaches.

It is estimated that the fresh move will increase the earnings of Indian Railways by approximate Rs 1.25 lakh in a single trip.

In the first phase, it will be implemented in Rajdhani and Duronto and later on it will be introduced in other trains too. Once enforced, the total number of RAC seats in each of these trains will increase to 102 as compared to 68 earlier.

  However, those travelling under RAC category will have to pay the same fare as those who have secured their berth because the Railway Ministry has not entertained any concessions.

  The RAC seats will be increased once the Centre for Railway Information System makes the modification in the software meant for booking of tickets which has already been ordered by the Railway Ministry.
