Hundreds of employees of the South Western Railway from Hubli, Bangalore and Mysore took out a procession here on Thursday as part of the zonal convention of the skilled employees of SWR.The convention was organised by the Hubli Workshop unit of the South Western Railway Mazdoor Union.The procession, which began from the Diesel Loco Shed on Gadag Road here ended at the office of the mazdoor union after going past the Hubli Rail Carriage Workshop, Divisional Railway Manager's Office and General Manager's Office.At the convention, employees from various divisional offices and the Mysore Workshop aired their grievances.Addressing the gathering, general secretary of the mazdoor union A.M. D'Cruz elaborated on how persistent efforts made by the union had resulted in changes in the grade guidelines of the railways.He said that while some demands had been met following efforts by the trade unions, there were still several issues that had been kept pending for a long time. Zonal president of the union W.A. Yadwad elaborated on some of the union's major demands.At the convention, it was resolved that a memorandum be submitted, demanding immediate action on several of the pending demands of the employees. These included immediate filling up of vacant posts and rectifying the disparities in the pay scales of skilled labour according to the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. |
