More than 30,000 persons visited Red Ribbon Express on the first day of its halt at Sivaganga on Monday.It was given a rousing reception by the people of all walks of life when it arrived from Ramanathapuram to Sivaganga for disseminating information and clearing misconception on HIV/AIDS.Collector V. Rajaraman inaugurated the exhibition at a ceremony held at the railway station, where it will be halted for two days so as to enable the people to visit the express, which has everything to create an awareness among the people, particularly targeted groups on HIV/AIDS.Accompanied by elected representatives and officials, he visited all eight bogies of the express. First four compartments have been used for exhibition.A large number of people, including school and college students, visited the Red Ribbon Express.They waited in queues to get into the train. There were explained by the doctors and volunteers. There were facilities to undergo general check up of patients at the train. Blood donation was also organised on the occasion.Mr. Rajaraman said more than 30,000 visitors had visited the express on the first day on Monday.The number would increase on Tuesday. Thirty-eight unit of blood was also collected from interested donors. |
