Railway connectivity between India and Bangladesh was disrupted during India-Pakistan war in 1965 after which until date no appropriate measure was taken to restore the link. In 2016, Bangladesh is working on priority basis to restore the disrupted link. Amir Hossain Amu, Bangladesh’s Industry Minister said in a “North East Connectivity Summit” at Agartala that government of the day would like to bring substantive changes in connectivity with India. Bangladesh is also monitoring commercial viability between Guwahati, Dhaka, Agartala and Shillong to bring direct air connectivity. He also said that in last seven years we have seen tremendous growth in India and Bangladesh in almost every area. India-Bangladesh trade ties are also touching new heights and situated in northeast of India, we are natural business partners. Joint secretary of Indian External affair Ministry Mr. Satpathy also confirmed that several connectivity related projects are underway to connect north-east with south-east Asian countries. TR Zeliang, Nagaland’S chief minister tried to bring back focus on basic infrastructure such as development of roads and people-to-people connectivity. |
