Title - Commuters hit after wire snaps on Harbour line

While there was no mega block on the Central railway (CR) on Sunday, commuters' on the Harbour line were put through considerable inconvenience after the overhead wire near Reay Road station snapped. The wire had snapped around 11.15 am resulting in all down line services between CST and Wadala coming to a halt.

It took more than an hour-and-a-half for CR authorities to restore services. "Services on the down line were restored around 12.50pm once the overhead wire was repaired," said the Government Railway police (GRP) control room. CR officials said that the disruption lasted for an hour from 11.42am to 12.40pm. Officials said that a crow was electrocuted in the overhead wire, which is when it snapped.

Till the time the wire was fixed, the entire timetable on the suburban services of the Harbour line had collapsed. Trains were running 15-20 minutes late and all trains were packed.

"This morning, around 11.30 am, we reached Dockyard station to go Bandra. But, there was no train on the down line and announcements were made about some technical problem. So, we took the train to Sandhurst Road and from there reached Bandra via Dadar," said PV Shah, a Mazgaon resident.

Earlier, Western railway had announced a mega block on the Harbour line between Mahim and Andheri stations. But, this was cancelled at the last minute.

The Central railway runs 583 suburban services on the Harbour line every day. But, on Sundays and public holidays, these are limited to 446.
