How many times have you walked into Tatanagar station to find that a particular entrance has been blocked for construction work? Or may be, a part of the platform has been cordoned off for relaying tiles? From now on, passengers will not be left befuddled at ongoing construction work. For, they will henceforth have full authority to approach Chakradharpur railway authorities for lodging complaints against infrastructure projects that are coming up in the area. The division, belonging to South Eastern Railway (SER), has now made it mandatory for its engineering department or railway contractors to put up displays at project sites to provide details of the nature of work, executing agency, materials used and date of completion. The initiative, part of the railway division's efforts at ensuring transparency and quality of work, also makes it mandatory for the displays to include cellphone numbers of senior railway officials including the divisional railway manager for people to get in touch with. Tatanagar's officiating station manager Rajendra Prasad said the first such display board was already up, announcing the renovation and expansion work of the computerised reservation centre. "Such displays would be put up for any project, big or small," he said, adding it was for the first time that such an initiative was being taken. |
